Happy Chinese New Year — it’s my year!

Chinese New Year celebration in Vegas is a huge event, since Strip casinos cater to so many Chinese gamblers. This year, I was particularly into it, since it’s my year, year of the snake. To get good luck for the year (I hope!) I made sure to see at least one traditional dance. I chose the one from the Cosmopolitan, which turned out to be spectacular. There was so much hoopla that it was tough to get photos, especially when they come right up to you, wiggling around so fast. To start, every resort is decorated for the holiday. The Cosmopolitan’s red lanterns looked particularly bright against its famous three-story chandelier.

Merry Christmas!

Ristras New MexicoA quick note to wish everyone a very happy Christmas! I’m home with the fam in New Mexico, which is packed with southwestern decorations, like the dried chili ristras above, at my best friend’s house. Outside, the luminarias are glowing — brown paper bags that line the streets (including ours, and our driveway) with a lit candle in each. Inside, the cookie jars are filled with Mom’s homemade creations. Our dinners are always a mix of Italian traditions and New Mexican specialities, such as every Italian cold cut and cheese you can imagine, with spicy Sadie’s salsa and homemade guacamole on the side. I love it.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

Pets ChristmasMy little family in Las Vegas is stuffed and exhausted after a gluttonous Thanksgiving and busy Black Friday. After just one day off work, I relaxed so much that I slept 13 hours last night! And today? I got so much done — most of which I won’t detail here, as some of the people I shopped for read this blog. Two I am pretty sure don’t? My two rescue pets, both of whom are now wearing the most adorable little costumes. I hope no one thinks I favor Jax, but he is just the only one who will let me take his photo. (Chase has on antlers, which are now hanging below his chin.) My boys have gone from the streets of Costa Rica to glitzy Sin City, where they often have vacations at the fanciest five-star dog hotel in Las Vegas. It is easier than most people think, bringing rescue pets home from your trip to the United States. It seems like just yesterday, my boys were Costa Rican stray street dogs.

People often tell me that my dogs won they lottery. But I think I did!

Let your “spirit” be your guide: hypnotherapy

Halloween weekend in Las Vegas was graced with crisp, 80-degree sunshine, not a cloud in the sky. But I didn’t need stormy weather to get in the “spirit” of things — I had an appointment for hypnotherapy with a doctor known for past-life regression. Happy Halloween to me!

Whether or not you believe in past lives, fragmented spirits, earthbound spirits or spirit guides, I promise you that ….

what I experienced was the best therapy I’ve ever had in my life.
