Top five sushi restaurants on the Strip in Las Vegas

Best restaurants in Vegas Blue RibbonSince Las Vegas is in a desert, many people are surprised to learn about our love affair with sushi. All of this confusion when we are just a 45-minute flight from the California coast, not to mention the private jets that fly in daily from Japan and the Mediterranean! (Of course, after living in Las Vegas for so long, nothing surprises me anymore). Yes, fresh seafood is alive and well in Sin City. While steakhouses remain the norm in bachelor party-heavy Vegas, there is so much amazing sushi on offer. During my almost three years as editor-in-chief of my city’s luxury magazine, which covers the best restaurants in Vegas, I’ve tasted my share. Visitors are always asking me my favorites, so I’ve compiled them here.

Soul2Soul: my review of Tim and Faith’s Vegas show

Tim McGraw Soul2Soul Venetian Vegas

Tim McGraw: photo courtesy of Venetian

Country music is having somewhat of a moment here in Las Vegas. Concerts, of course, have always come through town — and Garth Brooks had a successful run at Wynn. But this month, Shania Twain opened at the Colosseum, the first country crooner to do so. And the very next week, power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill started a limited run of Soul2Soul at Venetian. Daydream of the Week: Tim has Faith in Soul2Soul

Faith Hill Tim McGraw VegasI live in Vegas and don’t gamble, not so much as playing a dollar on the slot machines. But I would bet everything that I am not the only one who is totally overwhelmed this time of year. So please excuse my sporadic blogging — I have some amazing adventures coming up that I can’t wait to share! In the meantime, the Las Vegas Strip has caught country fever, starting with the great Shania Twain. And I confess, I am its biggest cheerleader. I took this photo of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw a few months ago, but I just this past weekend went to their Soul2Soul show at Venetian, during their premiere weekend. I promise to send along my review shortly. But in the meantime, I wanted to whet your appetite. Life has been hectic in Sin City, and all this fun has meant no time for writing. But just you wait — there is so much fun to come!!

Hot off the presses: Vegas in Vegas, with Michael Chiklis

Vegas magazineAny Michael Chiklis fans out there? He can count a huge one right here, especially after he recently came to my rescue. I mean, what’s an editor to do in order to follow up the biggest issue of her career — with the indomitable Celine Dion on the cover, and the ever-important “September issue” at that. And top it off, at Vegas magazine, October is our men’s issue, sometimes a challenge for a girly girl like me. Luckily, CBS came swooped in with a new show, aptly titled Vegas, starring the notorious “tough guy” actor Michael Chiklis. I couldn’t think of anyone better for my men’s issue.

But I do admit, I had some concerns.
