Michael Jackson Cirque premiere in Montreal

Montreal, Michael Jackson, Cirque du Soleil

World premiere red carpet for Cirque’s Michael Jackson homage.

Despite having seen all seven of Las Vegas’ Cirque du Soleil shows, all but one of them two or three times, when I headed to wintery Montreal (Cirque headquarters!), I had no idea what to expect. The brand has already put its mark on the legendary Beatles and Elvis Presley, but Michael Jackson? For some reason, this was different. And I was going to see first-hand, at the world premiere of The Immortal, Cirque du Soleil’s stadium tribute to the late, great Michael Jackson. The excitement was building fast! The show was about to embark on a tireless North American tour. Its only prolonged stop? Las Vegas, of course!Twenty-four nights in Sin City, starting December 3. A more theatrical version of the Michael Jackson spectacle will eventually settle in Sin City permanently. I can’t wait!

Don’t forget the people dressed in togas up on the balcony. It was a welcoming party fit for an icon! When Rod Stewart arrived, synchronized swimmers dove into the pool kicking up their legs as the song “Hot Legs” blared. They don’t call us Entertainment Capitol of the World for nothing!

My Biggest Fear: Bested, but not Conquered

travel, Las VegasZip-lining and sky-diving? Check. A strange addiction to catapulting to more than 1,000 feet on the Stratosphere’s Big Shot here in Las Vegas? Love it. Landing alone in China, Turkey, Malaysia and who knows where else, moving to a barrio in Costa Rica, solo cross-country road trips: Fun hobbies all of them, ways to unwind!

Even though my extreme dislike of horror films makes me think of myself as a scaredy cat, I get called a thrill-seeker all the time.

But I have one serious, debilitating fear. And I’m about two hours away from addressing it in the above photo, where I’m enjoying the calm before the storm with an old friend from NYC.
