The final day of my girls getaway to Ojai, California just might have saved the best for last: shopping, a vineyard tour and cocktails. I really did not want to come home! Being so used to all of the name brands that dominate the Strip in Vegas, I found Ojai’s boutiques especially adorable, and I loaded up on unique knickknacks to take home. Catherine and I also talked up the owners, who knew everything about Ojai and the surrounding areas. It had been a long time since I’d spent 20 minutes in a store just chatting! But we had nothing but time, strolling the main drag in the California sun. This was my kind of day.
Our first stop shopping on Ojai Avenue: Kingston’s Candy Co. Kingston’s, an old-fashioned, colorful pop and candy store. I picked up a few items, from sour mints in the cutest tin to fun Ojai postcards.
Kingston’s is owned by Holly Thrasher, whose sister, Sarah Jaimes, was so impressed by her business, she opened one in Santa Barbara. I love that. It’s called Kingston’s Candy Co. #2. I’ll have to check it out sometime!
My second stop was Kava, where I bought a bunch of knick-knacks, including an awesome designer matchbook for candles, a beautiful wall hanging and a gorgeous bowl.
There are several vineyard tours around Ojai, but we checked out The Ojai Vineyard. It was fascinating. Not only did I learn more about wine-making than I’ve learned in my lifetime, the vineyard’s manager had us mesmerized with his passionate talk about the generations required to learn the art of wine-making and how people fall into so many traps on their search for certainty. Live life! It’s messy! He was such an inspiration. Plus, one of his wines is THE favorite of the staff at Milos at Cosmopolitan here in Vegas. It was a great side trip/follow-up to our olive oil adventures of the previous day.
After our fabulous day, we finished with a beautiful sunset. Ojai has its own saying: pink moment, which happens every evening during sunset. How do you think it compares to other sunsets?
Our favorite Ojai hot spots.
