My favorite photos: “best of” Costa Rica!

I spent an entire year in Costa Rica, so it’s almost impossible for a sentimental sack like myself to choose favorite photos. For me, the “best” pictures are the ones that remind me of the good times we had. I miss my friends. I hope you fall for everyone just like I did… For starters, here are the guilas (kids). They’re a cheeky bunch and jumped in the pool the second after I took this photo so I wouldn’t take any more.

Pura vida!

No photo essay from Costa Rica would be complete without a sunset or two.

Marcelo and his watermelon just scream “happy” to me. This was an amazing boat day!

We were SO hot this day that Lisa and I literally took a pit stop in the supermarket to stick our heads in the freezer.

Alicia doing tricks in the water.

Kelsey holding on for dear life on a ride at the fair.

This straw Judas (with a coconut head, natch) was paraded around town with a band before landing outside the supermarket for the big party: the pueblo’s sins were read out loud for everyone to hear! (Letters were anonymously written in to aid the process.) Then he was burned.

Above all the others of the Monteverde cloud forest, I remember this photo, because I felt like I’d found a portal into a strange new world.

Also in Monteverde… Our hotel room was so high up that we were literally eye-level with the clouds.

Many of my fondest memories are hanging out with the guilas. They NEVER tired of taking self-portraits with my camera!

This is actually my screen saver! I took it while walking alone on a deserted beach outside of Puerto Viejo.

We spent all day moving a friend’s stuff after a divorce. Fran ran out of hands and started using her head to save the extra trip!

One more sunset — from Pacifico, my favorite happy hour/live music/sunset locale.

I’m ending with this one for no other reason but that no matter what we were doing (here, Lisa and Denise are at the fair), we were just so darn happy!

  16. I’m sure all these pics bring great memories Abby!

  17. Great pictures of what looks like a wonderful experience. Costa Rica, and Central America for that matter, are a region we’ve never been to, but it’s high on our list. The window shot with the cloud rolling by at eye level is very cool. I love shots like this since I’m born and raised in Missouri. Every time I am in a place where the clouds are seemingly so close, it just makes me happy because it’s so unique to what I’m used to. Great shots!

  18. Great shots, I’ve been to Panama several times but never Costa Rica, looking forward to next winter!
