The most delicious champagne and sashimi tasting at Bar Masa

Leora Hasas Abby Tegnelia

Two happy girls on a champagne campaign.

One of the best parts about living in Las Vegas for a foodie like me is that so many food and wine festivals come through town. The Food & Wine All-Star Weekend did not disappoint — especially the decadent champagne tasting at Bar Masa. From start to finish, it was truly one of the best events I’d ever been to! The menu was ridiculous, and we got to sit with who-ever we wanted. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We had a blast!

But who cares about the company (kidding) when surrounded by all of this food and amazing champagne!

Hot off the presses: Vegas in Vegas, with Michael Chiklis

Vegas magazineAny Michael Chiklis fans out there? He can count a huge one right here, especially after he recently came to my rescue. I mean, what’s an editor to do in order to follow up the biggest issue of her career — with the indomitable Celine Dion on the cover, and the ever-important “September issue” at that. And top it off, at Vegas magazine, October is our men’s issue, sometimes a challenge for a girly girl like me. Luckily, CBS came swooped in with a new show, aptly titled Vegas, starring the notorious “tough guy” actor Michael Chiklis. I couldn’t think of anyone better for my men’s issue.

But I do admit, I had some concerns.

What it’s like to meet Celine Dion

When I first moved to Las Vegas more than six years ago, Celine Dion was at the height of her domination of Strip entertainment. I never, ever in a million years would have guessed that someday I would meet her! My moment came this past Sunday, before her very last show at the Colosseum until the end of December. It was a huge show, and I couldn’t be more honored that she wanted to spend her time backstage before it with us. In fact, she couldn’t have been more gracious in everything that she did for us! As you can see here, this all came about because of her being the cover star of our September issue of Vegas magazine.

Doesn’t she look gorgeous?

How I was a bad a** at the gun range

Who looks the most awkward? Yup, me. ©CraigNyman

Do you see me? Yes, I’m the one in the blue very awkwardly holding her first shot gun. Even little Swanky Dietician in the middle looks more comfortable than me. (Terissa to my left outlasted everybody — but she does have police work in her past.) I was a disaster. We rolled up to Pro Gun Club after an awesome day of off-roading, during a day of adventure organized by Galavantier. I had no idea what I was getting into. A lot of guys come to Vegas and go to the gun range, and I never got why. So today, I was going to find out. Our first stop was the shot guns, and they were every bit as awful as I expected. I had never held a gun in my life, and I was shaking all over. Then the darn thing was so heavy! You had to load it twice, shut it, and shoot at the clay disks coming in at various angles. I was so nervous that I never even got loaded up until everyone else had shot. And I didn’t want to shoot alone. So I didn’t last very long, but it was quite all right. I was just there to wrap my brain around the whole gun range thing, not to actually enjoy it.

Or so I thought.

Had to do it once: Vegas gun range

Las Vegas is the bachelor party capitol of the world. About 99 percent of it, I will never, ever understand. So when I was offered the opportunity to go to a gun range, something it never occurred to me I’d do, I obviously jumped at the chance. I was nervous and didn’t get it and so out of my element it was ridiculous. What I didn’t expect? The insane adrenaline rush, relief when it was over — and that I’d really like one gun and loathe the others. I went to the Pro Gun Club as part of a day of adventure organized by Galavantier. That is sort of the best part: Even though all of this happens to be 15 minutes from MY house, I still didn’t have the courage to go alone. I met up with my friends on the Strip, and Galavantier arranged everything, from transportation and lunch — to the off-roading and gun-shooting. Doing some quick research on what the heck I was doing, and I’ll be back soon with a full post…

What a day!

I was a guest of Galavantier and Pro Gun Club, but all opinions are my own. Interested in having your own adventure sports day in Vegas? Galavantier is currently running a Summerlove Sweepstakes  where fans can unlock and win prize packs for “Liking” Galavantier on Facebook.

Vegas Off Roading Experience

Ready to take care of business!

It always makes me laugh that people are so surprised that there’s life in Las Vegas off the Strip — let alone a world of adventure sports and outdoor activities. The reason I think this is so funny is because Vegas is literally in the middle of the desert. If you drive in from LA, you see nothing  but dirt for a good portion of the trip. Flying in? As you can see here, from my private jet experience, brown for as far as you can see — until the city pops up just as you’re about to land. From my office window, I can see the line where the city stops and nothingness begins. The guys who thought to build an entertainment wonderland in the middle of such barren land were geniuses!

So what do we do with all of this land in modern-day Las Vegas?

Adventure sports, of course!
