Costa Rica – Your Adventure Vacations

Costa Rica River RaftingAs you guys know, I often feel like I left my heart in Costa Rica, where I lived for a year before moving back to Las Vegas for work. While there, I lived a quiet life in a very small town. But since there is so much else to do there, I wanted to write more of the country’s amazing adventure activities! The Central American country is one of the most spectacular places on earth. Each and every inch of Costa Rica is tailor-made to satisfy the holiday craves of its lucky visitors. I’ll be headed down again soon, so I’ve put together a list of excursions I’m planning to take. See you there?

Costa Rica is a wonderland of breathtaking landscapes, including the Arenal volcano, just a few hours from where I used to live. Tourists are drawn to the red neon light that reaches the sky from the red glow of lava in the evenings. The volcano is one of the most active volcanoes of the world and its near-perfect cone shape is magnificent to see.

Rainforest Hikes

The magnetic attraction of the natural wonders of Costa Rica is irresistible, and the tourists can’t help but go for the various rainforest hiking tours and lose themselves in the wildernesses. Rio Celeste & Tenorio Volcano rainforest is one such place where you can take a guided tour and uncover different kinds of flora and fauna of the region. The tour takes you to picturesque waterfall, hot springs, hanging bridges, and you can view amazing colors of life.

Buena Vista is another place that exhibits the glory of nature at its best. The walkways of the canopy tour are great ways for exploration, the high hanging bridges give you a fantastic panoramic view of the scenic beauty littered around, and you can spot countless exotic birds and wildlife. Then there is a waterslide, zip line, and well trodden pathways for exploring the region. Then to heal your bodily stresses, there are hot water springs and mud baths you can soak yourself with. You can opt for horseback rides or tractor carts for moving around.

Adventure Tours

Big bang in small packages – that is what Costa Rica is all about!

Zip Lines

Costa Rica has taken the concept of zip lining on a more dedicated note, hence the many canopy tours in seemingly every major town. Visitors can spend the whole day flying over the wire exploring the hidden wealth of the rainforest. Along with the zip lines, there are many aerial tram tours as well, which offer a great bird’s eye view of the greenery down below.

Water Tour

Exploring Costa Rica over the waters is another delightful activity. There are various tour packages you can choose from, like taking a rafting trip that takes you on a rollercoaster ride over the waves, or you can go for kayaking and snorkeling.

There are countless other entertaining adventures to go for, like the wildlife reserve tours, and marine tours that take you to the deep blue seas to get up-close with the marine creatures, and explore the amazing beauty all around.

On the road? Order in for healthier choices

Girl Eating Food

Prevent bad food choices on the road by ordering in.

Eating well on the road is one of the most difficult things about trying to remain “normal” during long-term travel… especially if you’re someone like me who can gain weight just by looking at a bakery window. I travel with meal replacement bars as often as I can, and I carry all of my vitamins with me, no matter how light I am traveling. (I drink more on the road and eat less vegetables, so it’s the least I can do.) I’ve found that the best way to keep from tiring myself out during my longer trips is to rent an apartment instead of staying in a hotel, to eliminate the need of eating out for every meal. I’ve been doing this since way before companies like Airbnb streamlined the process. So, no excuses! Continue Reading »»

My Travel Wishlist for Perth, Australia

I’m not scared of long plane rides – I’ve been all over Asia, including Macau, China, Thailand, Sinapore and Borneo. Yet, I’ve never made it to Australia. When my best friend married a guy from Sydney, I thought I’d have my chance! But being the considerate folks that they are, they decided to split the difference and say “I do” in Maui. I am now extra-determined to make it there soon.

Since I grew up in Florida and have lived in Costa Rica, it’s no secret I’m a beach girl. So I’m taking a look at Perth as my first stop!

Summer in Brazil

Summer in BrazilBrazil is often described as one of the most exciting places on the planet. So when the FIFA World Cup rolls into town, you know you’re in for a treat. The sport is synonymous with the samba nation and whether you like football or not it will be impossible to not fall in love with the electric atmosphere that will spill from the sands of the Copacabana beach all the way into deep Amazonia.

The tournament is expected to kick-start a period when Brazil will go all out to showcase what it has to offer, continuing all the way through to the Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.

So what better time to visit?

Daydream of the Week: My new neighborhood

Los Altos Silicon Valley Flowering TreesOne of my favorite parts about leaving Las Vegas for northern California has been the changing of the seasons. When I got here in November, the leaves had changed colors, so the trees were covered in the deep reds and yellows of autumn.  Then winter set in, albeit a mild one. Still, the starkness was noticeable, even in sunny Silicon Valley. Now it’s almost springtime, and the flowers are absolutely gorgeous. My dog walks around my neighborhood in the small town of Los Altos are still super-exciting, overcome with flowers of all colors. But even though the pinks, bright yellows and purples are absolutely gorgeous, my favorite California treat are these trees that are covered in white blooms. Continue Reading »»

Make Your Way to Charming Victoria

Simone Paget Victoria

My friend Simone, taking me on a walking tour of her neighborhood in Victoria.

When my friend Simone left the cosmopolitan city of Toronto to move back home to adorable Victoria, I knew I had to visit as soon as I could. Simone is the funniest writer I know, covering all topics related to men and dating, like this hilarious “review” of bad online dating profiles. In fact, we spend so much time gossiping about bad dates, time flew by without my writing about our trip. Now it’s March. And here in California, my dog walk has become overcome with blooming flowers – spring is here! It’s reminded me of last summer, when it was still warm up in Vancouver and Victoria. So it is finally time to share! I know that the quaint town will charm you as much as it did me.
